THE JOURNEY THUS FAR AND THE WAY FORWARD.
Ogoni Rant is a social media (Facebook) platform, housing the Ogoni Rant social media community.
This project started in the early hours of the 19th of May,2020 in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic.
What started as an experiment has grown to be the most formidable social media gathering of the Ogoni people.
While this platform was created by an act of one man clicking the "create" button, it is where it is today because thousands of others clicked and has kept clicking the "invite" button. We see no less than 500 new join requests daily.
Today, we are above 40 thousands Ogonis here; interracting daily and exchanging contents. Today, hundreds of friendships have been brokered amongst Ogonis who initially had no foreknowledge of the existence of each other. Today, Ogoni owned businesses have gained promotion and patronage by advertising on this platform.
This Community has succeeded in uniting us irrespective of our geographical location. Those in the cities and abroad can stay connected to home while away. This is where we come daily to discuss, laugh and learn.
Through this Community, many Ogoni lives have been touched through charitable gestures from well meaning Ogonis. We have jointly saved the life of a young lady as well upgraded shelter for an old woman. We will do more henceforth.
It is true that Ogoni Rant is not perfect. It is true that Ogoni Rant is not where many expect it to be but, in all honesty, we have brought about many soothing miracles with our collective presence here.
While our time together this first year was almost 100% online, we are working towards having more of offline engagements to concretely address concerns raised on the platform and strengthen the ties built from here.
Like you all know, Ogoni Rant now has a Bank Account. What this means is that we can now poll resources to execute various developmental projects and charitable goals that will benefit Ogoniland.
Finally, many have asked how we would be marking the Anniversary. Our answer to that is "Come to Bori on Saturday 29th of May as we walk out insecurity from our land."
The "Ogoni Peace and Prayer Walk" is how we mark this year's anniversary. It is our first offline miracle. It will foretell the many offline benefits this great Community will bring to Ogoniland.
